Merkur Adjustable security Razor Roundup

Merkur is currently one only a few associates development the old-school adjustable security razor. The superior adjustable security razor had it heyday in the 50's and 60's. What set it apart was that the blade angle could be adjusted to suit the needs of the shaver. A shallow angle for a more forgiving shave, or a more aggressive angle for more difficult jobs. New users tend to stick to shallower blades angles. The firm part of the blade stays close to the gaurd so it's not as easy to get into trouble. More experienced users sometimes use a more aggressive angle with the blade set off the guard to tackle heavy beards.

The Merkur line of razors start at colse to and go up to the over 0 range. In the range there is the Progress. This is an good place to start if you are just getting into adjustable security razors. The reviews for this razor are commonly good. This truly is the workhorse of the Merkur line. It does the job well with no frills. Buy some capability razors, use good shaving soap and a nice badger hair brush and you are good to go.

The next up in the the Merkur line is the Futur. This razor has a sexy, polished look. How does it perform? Most reviews here are positive, too. One small complaint is that replacing the blade can be hazardous because the top guard certainly pops off revealing the double edge blade. But with practice, this shouldn't be a concern.

And at the high end of the spectrum is the Vision. This is for old-school razor connoisseurs only. Its a bit pricey at the 0 - 0 range, but it is beautiful. Most shavers will go for the less high-priced Merkur models, then spend money on a good badger hair brush, soap and shave cream.
